Finding Your Voice Again: Sometimes You Have to Get Quiet Before You’re Ready to Speak
August has been an interesting month for me.
I came into it knowing I wanted to start showing up again.
Writing again.
Sharing again.
Connecting again.
But I also knew I didn’t want to come back simply because I thought I should.
I wanted it to feel right.
And maybe that’s one of the biggest things I’ve learned during this season of my life:
You don’t always have to rush to fill the silence.
Sometimes the quiet is where you figure out what you actually want to say.
When Life Changes, Your Voice Changes Too
There have been times in my life when finding my voice wasn’t difficult.
If you know me, you’re probably laughing right now. 😂
I’ve never exactly been known for keeping my opinions to myself.
But having something to say and knowing what matters enough to say are two very different things.
Life changes us.
Loss changes us.
Love changes us.
Aging changes us.
Success changes us.
Disappointment changes us.
The things we thought mattered ten years ago might not matter nearly as much today.
And the things we once took for granted can suddenly become incredibly important.
That’s what I’ve been discovering.
My voice isn’t gone.
It’s evolved.
The Quiet Wasn’t Empty
There are seasons when we’re incredibly productive.
We’re building.
Creating.
Working.
Planning.
Doing.
And then there are seasons when life asks something completely different from us.
It asks us to stop.
To listen.
To feel.
To process.
To take care of ourselves or someone we love.
To figure out who we are after something has changed.
From the outside, those seasons can look like we’re doing nothing.
But I don’t believe that anymore.
Sometimes the quietest seasons of our lives are doing some of the deepest work.
They’re changing what we value.
They’re showing us who matters.
They’re teaching us what deserves our energy.
And eventually, they’re helping us decide what comes next.
You Don’t Have to Come Back the Same
This has probably been the biggest theme for me throughout August.
I kept coming back to the idea that:
I’m not starting over. I’m starting from experience.
And I’ve realized the same thing applies to our voice.
We don’t have to say what we’ve always said.
We don’t have to talk about the same things.
We don’t have to show up in exactly the same way.
We’re allowed to evolve.
In fact, I think we’re supposed to.
I still care deeply about health and wellness.
I’m still fascinated by the human body.
I’m still passionate about photobiomodulation and what we’re learning about light.
I still believe strength matters.
I still believe movement matters.
But these days, I’m equally interested in the conversations underneath all of that.
What makes us feel alive?
How do we keep going when life doesn’t go according to plan?
How do we reinvent ourselves without losing who we are?
How do we take care of our bodies while also taking care of our minds, relationships and energy?
How do we age without deciding that our biggest adventures are behind us?
And how do we find joy again after a chapter that changed us?
Those are the conversations I want to have.
Maybe We Need More Real Conversations
We live in a world where we’re constantly being shown polished versions of people’s lives.
The success.
The transformation.
The perfect morning routine.
The perfect body.
The perfect business.
The perfect relationship.
But life doesn’t actually look like that.
Mine certainly doesn’t.
There have been incredible highs.
There have also been moments when I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.
I’ve been strong.
I’ve been scared.
I’ve laughed until I couldn’t breathe.
I’ve had my heart broken.
I’ve reinvented myself more than once.
And at this point in my life, I’m much less interested in pretending we’ve all got it figured out.
I’d rather have the real conversation.
The one where we can talk about wellness AND life.
Strength AND vulnerability.
Science AND experience.
Success AND the messy parts nobody puts on Instagram.
Because I think that’s where connection happens.
August Was the Beginning
When I started showing up again this month, I called it my soft relaunch.
And that’s exactly what it became.
I didn’t need fireworks.
I needed to find my rhythm.
I needed to write.
I needed to reconnect.
I needed to remember how much I enjoy sharing ideas and starting conversations.
And most of all, I needed to hear my own voice again.
Now, as August comes to a close, something feels different.
I’m ready to turn it up.
September Is Going to Sound a Little Different 🎙️
If you’ve been paying attention to a few of my hints lately, you may already know where this is going. 😉
In September, Let’s Light It Up is returning as a podcast.
And this time, I want it to reflect the woman I am today.
There will absolutely be conversations about wellness.
We’ll talk about light.
Health.
Energy.
Recovery.
Healthy aging.
But we’re also going to talk about life.
Reinvention.
Resilience.
Loss.
Friendship.
Relationships.
Confidence.
Purpose.
Joy.
And what happens when the life you planned becomes something you never expected.
Some conversations will teach us something.
Some might challenge us.
Some will probably make us laugh.
And I have a feeling a few might make us cry.
That’s okay.
That’s real life.
Maybe It’s Time to Find Your Voice Too
You don’t need a podcast to have something worth saying.
Maybe there’s a conversation you’ve been avoiding.
An idea you’ve been sitting on.
Something you’ve wanted to create.
A story you’ve never told.
Or maybe you’ve simply been quiet for a while.
Don’t assume the silence means you’ve lost your voice.
Maybe you’re still figuring out what you want to say next.
Give yourself that time.
And when you’re ready…
Speak.
Because experience gives us something younger versions of ourselves couldn’t possibly have had:
A story worth telling.
August helped me find my voice again.
September?
I’m ready to use it. 🎙️✨
There is so much more coming.
And I hope you’ll come along for the conversation.
Let’s Light It Up. 🔥
