When Life Changes the Plan

Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is let the plan change.

If you’ve been following along lately, you know I’ve been pretty excited about September.

August was my soft relaunch.

September was going to be the month I turned the microphone back on.

The blog was back.

The newsletter was back.

The podcast was coming back.

I was excited.

I had a plan.

And then life said…

Not so fast.

My husband was in a motorcycle accident.

And just like that, the calendar, the plans, the podcast and everything I thought the next few weeks were going to look like became a whole lot less important.

I'm back in caregiver mode.

Funny How Quickly Priorities Change

One minute you're planning content, podcasts and what's coming next.

The next, you're thinking about appointments, recovery, medications, meals and making sure the person you love has what they need.

Life has a way of reminding us what actually matters.

I've spent a lot of time over the last few years being a caregiver.

It's a role I know well.

Maybe a little too well.

And if you've ever cared for someone you love, you know that caregiving isn't simply something you do.

You carry it.

Physically.

Mentally.

Emotionally.

Even when you're doing something completely unrelated, part of your brain is still keeping track of the person who needs you.

So What Happens to the Plan?

This is where the old version of me might have tried to do everything anyway.

Keep the schedule.

Get the podcast out.

Keep working.

Keep posting.

Keep showing up like nothing happened.

But I'm learning.

Sometimes showing up means knowing what needs your attention—and what can wait.

The podcast may need to be put on hold for a little while.

And surprisingly, I'm okay with that.

Disappointed? Absolutely.

But there will be time for microphones and conversations.

Right now, someone I love needs me.

That's the priority.

Starting Again Doesn't Mean Starting Over

Last week I wrote about how starting again doesn't mean starting over.

Apparently life wanted to make sure I really understood the lesson. 😉

Because here we are.

Another change.

Another detour.

Another reminder that we don't always get to control the timing.

But putting something on pause doesn't mean giving it up.

A pause is not an ending.

That's something I think many of us need to hear.

Maybe you've had to put a dream on hold.

Maybe your health changed.

Maybe someone you love needed you.

Maybe work took over.

Maybe life simply became too much for a while.

It doesn't mean the dream disappeared.

Sometimes it just means:

Not right now.

Caregivers Need Care Too

And here's the part I'm going to have to remind myself of over the coming weeks.

You can't pour everything you have into someone else and expect your own tank to magically stay full.

Movement matters.

Sleep matters.

Eating properly matters.

Getting outside matters.

Laughing matters.

Asking for help matters.

And taking ten minutes for yourself doesn't make you selfish.

It makes you human.

I'm writing that as much for myself as I am for anyone reading this.

Maybe This Is What Living Well Really Looks Like

A couple of weeks ago, I asked:

What does living well mean to you?

I'm realizing again that living well isn't always the beautiful, energetic version we put on social media.

Sometimes wellness looks like recovery.

Sometimes it looks like rest.

Sometimes it looks like accepting help.

Sometimes it looks like taking care of somebody you love.

And sometimes it looks like giving yourself permission to say:

The plan has changed—and that's okay.

The Microphone Will Still Be There 🎙️

I was incredibly excited to bring Let’s Light It Up back this month.

I still am.

It just might happen a little later than I planned.

And when I'm ready to sit behind that microphone again, I'll probably have another story to tell.

Because that's life, isn't it?

We make plans.

Life changes them.

We adjust.

We keep going.

And eventually...

we light it up again. ❤️

Until then, I'll continue writing when I can, sharing when it feels right and taking this next chapter one day at a time.

If you're in caregiver mode too—or life has recently thrown your perfectly organized plans completely out the window—I see you.

What's something you've learned about letting go of the plan?

I'd love to hear from you.

Let’s Light It Up. 🔥
